Privacy Policy for Roamer
Effective Date: October 21, 2026
Our Promise
We never sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with the companies that help us run Roamer, in the social features described below, when you ask us to, or when the law requires it.
What We Collect
- Your account: your email address, name, settings, and linked Rivian account
- Your vehicles and orders: which vehicles you have and how they're built, their status, location, charging, and driving history, and your Rivian orders
- Saved places from your Rivian account: with Roamer Plus, the Home, Work and favorites saved in your Rivian account, which become places in Roamer. Roamer doesn't keep your recent destinations.
- Your subscription: whether you have Roamer Plus, and the IDs Stripe uses for your payments
- How you use Roamer: what you do on the website and in the app, your IP address and the rough location it shows, your browser or app version, your type of device, and details about errors
Roamer reads your vehicles' data from your Rivian account. When you link it, Roamer passes your Rivian password to Rivian to sign you in and never saves it. We keep only an encrypted key from Rivian.
How We Use Your Information
- To run the features you use, like your dashboard, activity, trips, insights, notifications, imports, and exports
- To answer AI assistants you connect, using only the data you allow
- To keep your account safe, stop abuse, fix problems, and answer support requests
- To handle your subscription
- To learn how Roamer is used and make it better
- To publish totals that don't identify anyone, like how many vehicles have a software update
We use your location history only for these things, and we never sell it.
What Others Can See
Social features, like leaderboards, show some of your information publicly: your handle, details about your vehicles and orders, and stats like efficiency and distance. They never show your name, email, location, or drive history. Social features are on when you join, and you can turn them off anytime in your profile.
AI Assistants
You can connect an AI assistant, like Claude or ChatGPT, to read your Roamer data. We share your data with an assistant only if you connect it yourself, never without your consent. An assistant can't change anything in Roamer, control your vehicles, or see your Rivian login or payment details.
Every connection can read:
- your vehicles, their VINs, and their latest status
- your drives, charges, and trips, with costs, efficiency, battery health, and phantom drain (battery lost while parked)
- software updates and your Rivian orders
- the names of your saved places and tags, the saved place where a drive or charge started or ended, and the electricity prices you set
- the network and town of public chargers you use
Location data starts on when you connect an assistant Roamer knows, such as Claude or ChatGPT, and off for other apps. You can change it when you connect and turn it off anytime after. It adds:
- where your vehicles are now, including the saved place where each one is parked
- the exact location of your saved places
- the address and exact location where each drive and charge started and ended
- your drive routes
- Who gets your data: the company behind the assistant, like Anthropic or OpenAI. Its rules and your settings with it decide what happens to your conversations, including whether they're used to train its AI. We don't control that.
- What we keep: we don't receive your conversations, only the requests the assistant sends to Roamer. We log each request (when, which assistant, what it asked for, and whether it worked) and keep those logs for up to one year.
- Turning it off: on the Roamer website, go to Account → Connected Apps to stop sharing location data or disconnect an assistant. To share location data again, connect again. Changing your password, signing out your other sessions, or deleting your account disconnects every assistant, and so does leaving one unused for 180 days. Disconnecting stops new requests but doesn't delete what an assistant already has.
Companies That Help Us Run Roamer
- Stripe: handles subscriptions and payments. We never store your full card number.
- PostHog: shows us how people use Roamer.
- Amazon Web Services: runs our servers, stores files and logs, and sends email.
- Apple: delivers notifications to your iPhone.
- Database and map companies: store data and show maps.
Some services we use get no personal information at all. Place search gets only the words you type, and weather gets only a rough area and a date. Neither gets anything that identifies you.
Keeping and Deleting Data
- We keep your account and vehicle data while you have an account.
- If Roamer Plus ends, your Roamer Plus history stays for 6 months. After that, we may delete it.
- We keep our own usage records and server logs for up to one year.
You can delete your account in your account settings. Right away, we sign you out everywhere, stop collecting data from your vehicles, cancel any subscription, and remove your Rivian link, passkeys, signed-in apps, connected AI assistants, and unsent emails. Then we delete your account, vehicle data and history, imports, uploaded files, and usage data, and we ask PostHog to delete its data about you.
A few things last longer:
- Server logs, including AI assistant requests, expire within one year.
- Encrypted backups expire on a set schedule. If we ever restore one after a disaster, your deletion still applies.
- While we delete your account, we keep your email address and name with the request so we can confirm when it's done. We erase them when it finishes, or after 30 days. After that, we keep only random IDs that can't identify you, so delayed tasks can't bring deleted data back.
- Stripe keeps payment records it must keep by law, some for up to seven years.
Your Choices
You can:
- See your data, download your drives and charges, and request an archive of your data from your account page
- Fix your profile and settings
- Turn off social features
- Turn off optional emails and notifications
- Delete your account and its data
Other Details
- We encrypt your data when it's sent and when it's stored, wherever we can.
- We use cookies and app sign-ins to keep you signed in, keep your account safe, remember your settings, and measure how Roamer is used. We don't track you across other websites, and we don't respond to browser "Do Not Track" signals.
- Roamer is for adults 18 and older. If we learn we have information from a child under 13, we'll delete it.
- Your information may be stored and used in the United States.
- If Roamer is ever sold or merged, your information would go to the new owner, and this policy would still apply to it.
- If we make a big change to this policy, we'll tell you before it takes effect and post the new version here.
