Linking your Rivian account
Linking your Rivian account
Roamer reads your vehicle's data through your Rivian account. You sign in with Rivian, and Roamer keeps the encrypted sign-in tokens Rivian returns, not your password.

How does linking work?
- Enter your Rivian email and password. Roamer passes them to Rivian and doesn't save your password.
- Enter the two-factor code Rivian sends you.
- Rivian returns sign-in tokens, and Roamer stores them encrypted.
Rivian's sign-in lasts six months. Roamer emails you about 30, 14, 7 and 3 days before it runs out, if your email is confirmed. To renew, choose Refresh Credentials on Account → Linked Accounts and sign in to Rivian again.
Is it safe, and what does Roamer read?
Roamer doesn't save your Rivian password and can't control your vehicle. It reads vehicle details and orders, software versions, drive and charging data, saved places, and location for maps.
Your data isn't sold. It's shared as the Privacy Policy describes: with the providers that run Roamer, services you connect such as an AI assistant, and community features like leaderboards, which you can opt out of in your profile.
Roamer says to reconnect. Will I lose my history?
No. Choose Reconnect on Account → Linked Accounts, or Refresh Credentials if the link hasn't expired yet, and sign in to Rivian again. Your history stays. Nothing is recorded for the time the link was down.
Don't choose Unlink Account to fix a link. Unlinking deletes your vehicles and their history.
Should I use a secondary driver account?
It's optional. A second Rivian account keeps Roamer apart from your own sign-in, and you can remove it from your vehicle at any time. It also helps if other apps read your Rivian account, since Rivian limits how much one account can be read.
- Create a Rivian account with a plus alias of your email, such as you+roamer@example.com.
- In the Rivian app, signed in as yourself, open Drivers and keys, choose Invite a driver, and invite the new address.
- Accept the invitation from that inbox.
- Link the new account to Roamer. If your own Rivian account is already linked, choose Change Sync Account on Account → Linked Accounts instead, which keeps your history.
Invite that account to every vehicle you want in Roamer, including ones you buy later.
Why won't my Rivian account link?
- Use your Rivian email and password, not your Roamer password. A password manager may fill in the wrong one.
- Enter the two-factor code right away. It expires quickly.
- Sign in to the Rivian app with the same account to check it works there.
Why isn't my vehicle showing up?
A secondary account sees a vehicle once it accepts the driver invitation, and Roamer emails you when it spots one waiting. After that, the vehicle shows up within minutes. A vehicle you removed from Roamer stays hidden until you choose Restore on Account → Linked Accounts.
Why do my drives have no map?
Rivian isn't sharing your vehicle's location. On the vehicle's center display, open Settings → Data and Privacy → Precise Location and allow sharing with the Rivian app. Hide location in the Rivian app also blocks location while that driver's profile is loaded. Then choose Refresh Credentials on Account → Linked Accounts. Your next drive or charge will have a map.
An R2 reports its location about once a minute, so its maps are coarser than an R1's.
